PHC Ponies &
Tots Program
Designed for children ages 3 - 5 years old, PAT creates a safe environment for first exposure to horses. This program introduces a healthy positive equestrian experience at an early age, that promotes fun, physical literacy and respect for animals to last a lifetime.
PAT, designed by Danielle Yaghdjian and offered exclusively at PHC, facilitates children to develop basic human movements and link them together in active play around horses. Children will have their first exposure to horses and the stable and will learn basic grooming, riding, theory and safety practices. We reinforce ‘FUNdamental’ movement patterns by having beginner riders practice on a vaulting barrel prior to their first interaction on horseback.
PAT works as part of our LTED ‘Active Start’ program. It is structured to enhance a young child’s physical, mental and emotional development while enjoying a farm environment with safe horses and ponies.
Skill Development Guideline:
Safely approach a horse
Pat a horse or pony under supervision
Handle a brush and learn basic grooming

Balance, harmonious movement and relaxation exercises on a vaulting barrel
Learn to mount & dismount (with use of a vaulting barrel)
Build trust and confidence with animals
Basic use of reins and stirrups
Know simple parts of the horse
